Our time in Mexico is coming to an end. Josh officially finished treatment on Thursday but we’ve been in and out of the hospital since then. It’s been a rollercoaster - emotionally, physically and mentally. What we haven’t shared yet is that this journey has many layers and many phases. There isn’t a ‘one stop shop’ to heal this disease.
We take it day by day and make decisions along the way. The treatments in Mexico have been focused on boosting Josh’s immune system and training his own cells to kill and fight cancer. The next step is radiation. We’re in the process of moving to another location for brain radiation (and possibly radiation in other areas as well). There are over 15 tumors in Josh’s brain alone, not to mention the lungs, spine and other locations. Each step is a waiting game. Each step involves packing up our family and moving to a new place, getting used to new surroundings, finding grocery stores, transportation and sorting out all of the practical logistics. Covid has made this process even more difficult. Josh is in pain and experiences scary symptoms of brain swelling every day. These are managed with higher and higher doses of steroids and pain killers (today they were administered by IV and injections so he would feel the effects faster). The treatments can also cause inflammation (which is positive because it means they’re working) but we just don’t know the real cause of his symptoms yet. Our time here has been beautiful and difficult. Full of laughter and full of challenges.
We’re in good spirits and we trust that God has THE WHOLE PROCESS under control. We need continued prayers for healing, for travel - and medical visas for our whole family. We need prayer for strength!! Prayers that the doctors can work quickly and that all treatments are EFFECTIVE. Prayers as always... for a big freaking miracle!! Xx
